"I have been a member at Firm-n-Tone for over 1 year now. It’s handy for me to use at lunchtime because I work in the same building. As a scratch golfer I wanted to remain nimble and flexible into my older years. (Only 31 at the moment). |

The Road to Bannockburn!
Testimony by Susan Martin member of Firm 'n' Tone - Oct 06 – Present
It has been quite a journey for me over the last year. I had been on Goals training in London in Sept '06 which is a motivational course looking at yourself outwardly and inwardly. I certainly looked at myself and decided it was time to change and invest in myself.
I help to develop the self esteem of disadvantaged young people for a living and was too busy helping others to help myself - well that was my excuse!
Whatever happened to me over the two days in London gave me the courage to realise I had to challenge my whole self image.
I walked up the stairs of Firm 'n' Tone to be greeted by a staff team of beauties but I can say I was not intimidated because the staff team were so professional they made my introduction to changing my life so easy.
I had to be weighed! Oh my goodness I knew I was heavy, but 17 stone 10 lbs! Where do you begin to put that body weight in order? I had never been in a gym in my life. The enviroment and machines were all alien to me.
I started and was encouraged all the way. I embraced the buzz and friendliness of Firm 'n' Tone. Shama the owner is a real innovator and has something very special and addivitive going on there. I was hooked!
I have now shed 6 stone 5lbs and aim to lose another stone over the next 2 months. I am having a pole party for all my girlfriends in the gym and we are going to celebrate.
Recently I was asked to do a presentation in London to an audience of 700 people! I could not have done that without changing myself. I was so confident I was asked to go to the recent Scotland Fashion Awards and address the beautiful people to talk about the work that we do. There I was walking up the red tartan carpet with all the photographers and television cameras. I was not daunted and thought “you look good girl, walk with style.”
I approached the stage with confidence but my legs were wobbling underneath my dress. The celebrity introduced me and as I walked off the catwalk my heel caught in the stairs and I went down with my face hitting the ground. I explained to John I had only been drinking water but he probably did not believe me as it was like a take from AB FAB!
My road to Bannockburn ends on a high note as I am going forwrd into 2008 a new me inside and out.
I would encourage anyone who wants to change just to go for it! It’s not hard or painful, just a little bit of discipline and healthy eating not forgetting that it would all be unachievable without the exercise and a group of ladies who are there to support you, encourage you and help you to succeed. I have had a great year and have booked to go to New York on a shopping spree. I have dropped from a size 26 to a size 14 so some new clothes are in order. I am going to drink cosmopolitans and the rest can only be revealed in my next chapter. Watch this space!
